Course Description:
The course is a 2 credit course with the option of earning one externship credit for students who agree to work 55 hours during the semester for the Victims Legal Assistance Project.
Victims in Criminal Procedure will explore the
historical and evolving role of crime victims in the
criminal justice process. The law and litigation of
crime victims’ rights at the state and federal levels
will be examined. Among the topics that will be
considered are constitutional and statutory rights for
crime victims, the effect of these rights on the
rights of the defendant and the criminal justice
system generally. The question of enforcing victims’
rights and case law developments will also be
considered.
