Course Description:
This course examines legal and policy issues related to amateur sports in the United States, focusing primarily on interscholastic, youth and intercollegiate athletics. By the end of this course, students will understand and be able to discuss and analyze issues relating to:
A. The regulation of amateur athletics by private
organizations, state, local and federal governments, and
the judicial branch;
B. The relationship between student athlete and academic
institution;
C. NCAA governance of intercollegiate athletics;
D. Intellectual property rights of athletes and coaches;
E. Gender and racial equity in sports; and
F. Issues related to the Olympic Games
