Complete Description:
International Law Week: “International Human Rights Abuses and the Crisis in Venezuela": A revolutionary wave of violent demonstrations and civil wars around the world have resulted in the downfall of Gaddafi’s torturous dictatorship in Libya, the death of several thousandSyrians by an oppressive government, and the invalidity of Thailand’s national election, to
name a few. Venezuelans, in particular, have taken to the streets to protest against the country’s failing economy and government imposed injustices, only to be met by police brutality, death, and the inability to seek redress for their grievances from regional and international bodies. Join Daniel Rothenberg, Professor of Practice at the School of Politicsand Global Studies and Angelo Torrealba, LLM student, in a discussion about the failures ofinternational and regional organizations to counter systemic and grave human rights violationscommitted by governments around the world, specifically the Venezuelan regime. Free and Open to the public. RSVP to lga@asu.edu
