Going Home Again: Reactions to the Heard Museum’s Newest Permanent Exhibit

Abstract
This article describes an exhibit on display at the Herd Museum in Phoenix, Arizona titled, Home: Native People in the Southwest. The exhibit displays Native cultures of five distinctive regions in the Southwest. The exhibit also serves to illustrates the role which museums play in providing an outlet where contemporary Native peoples can represent their own cultures and traditions. The exhibit focuses on core concepts central to Native people’s identity: land, culture, and community. Tsosie describes the Native relationship between people and land as a significant part of the exhibit. She also explains the importance of the relationship between ancestral and contemporary Native people.
