Abstract

Bruce Budowle devoted most of his presentation, “Laboratory Testing of DNA for Forensic Use: Protocols, Quality Assurance, Training, and Accreditation Issues,” to criticizing an article we wrote entitled, “The Coming Paradigm Shift in Forensic Identification Science. Ironically, the article holds DNA typing up as a good model for the development of other areas into scientifically well grounded forensic identification sciences. Most of Budowle’s criticisms reflect an extreme reading of our paper, failing to see important statements that we did make and complaining about statements he thinks we made but which we did not.

Keywords: Forensic identification sciences, DNA, evidence
