Sports can involve a jog around campus or big business. Sports strategy whether on the field, in the front office, across the negotiation table, or at the ticket counter involves out‐thinking and out‐doing competition. Sports are interesting, important and a vivid context to learn about business strategy and all its diverse stakeholders. In our sports business coursework, we will maintain a pragmatic, experiential, yet well‐grounded focus, studying the role, nature and dynamics of sports business both in and around “sports industries” and in and around “conventional businesses” which are active stakeholders in sports. We will build and “test” knowledge and exercise skills related to sports business analysis, decision making, communication and both strategy development and execution, as well as, strategy assessment and innovation in sports. The course will be intellectually rigorous, yet fun. We will invite a number of C‐suite executives into our classroom who will share insights into their industry sectors, organizations, and important sports initiatives and issues.
