Douglas Rayes is the Presiding Criminal Judge, whose assignments have included family court, criminal court, special assignment in civil court, and complex civil.
Professor Rayes is a former co-chairman of the Judicial College of Arizona, New Judge Orientation Committee. He is an instructor and faculty member for the New Judge Orientation Training Program, past board member of the Judicial College of Arizona, and the past chairman of the Maricopa County Superior Court Mental Health Committee. Professor Reyes serves as Chairman of the Town of El Mirage Judicial Selection and Advisory Board and serves on the City of Phoenix Judicial Selection Advisory Board. He has been a presenter for numerous CLE courses for the State Bar of Arizona and is a faculty member of the Arizona College of Trial Advocacy.
He served for three years in the Army JAG in Germany, where he defended soldiers charged with felony offenses in courts martial. Professor Reyes was in private practice in Phoenix for 19 years, and was a partner in the firm of McGroder, Tryon, Heller and Rayes, focusing primarily on personal injury/ medical malpractice and police disciplinary defense.
