Veda Collmer received her degree in 2008 from the City University of New York School of Law, where her studies concentrated on public health law and policy.

In 2007, Collmer  was selected for the New York State Executive Chamber Internship. She worked closely with the Health and Human Services Division and the Department of Health in the development of several innovative statewide health initiatives. Her projects included tobacco cessation programs, mental health community housing, and state regulation of daycare workers. She prepared advisory memoranda for the governor’s legal counsel regarding proposed health legislation. Collmer also interned with a nonprofit public health organization to provide legal support for various New York City programs.Her interests include disease prevention and education and access to healthcare.

Prior to law school, Collmer practiced as an occupational therapist. She was the recipient of the New York State Health Services Corp Scholarship, and utilized her training to meet the needs of underserved areas in rural upstate New York and New York City. Most recently, Collmer was an attorney at Hiscock Legal Aid Society in Syracuse, N.Y. In her spare time, she provided pro bono legal support to the community in conjunction with the Onondaga County Bar Association.
