Daniel L. Schay is the Executive Director of Phoenix Theatre,
and is an arts administrator, producer, and stage director with more than 30
years of experience in the field.
Professor Schay came to Arizona in 1995 as the first executive
director of the Sedona Film Festival and Sedona Cultural Park. Previously, he
was Managing Director of the Philadelphia Drama Guild, and Producing Director
of Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Massachusetts. He has directed 12 plays for
Phoenix Theatre’s New Works Festival, and directed last year’s Mainstage
production of Glorious!, as well as
more than 40 productions at theatres around the country.
Professor Schay has worked with dozens of performing
arts organizations as a management consultant, and taught at Yale University, Florida
State University and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He is a site
reporter for the National Endowment for the Arts, and has been a grants
panelist for the arts councils of Massachusetts and Maryland and for the
Arizona Commission on the Arts & Humanities. He is on the boards of Arizona
School for the Arts and Greasepaint Youtheatre, and previously served on the
boards of Arizona Town Hall, Arizonans for Cultural Development, and the
Sedona-Oak Creek Chamber of Commerce.
